Business Criteria

To be eligible for the New Energy Apprenticeship Program with Apprentice Success your business will need to:

  • Demonstrate active engagement and operation within the Clean Energy sector, highlighting your dedication to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship. 
  • Commit to offering your Apprentice/s valuable exposure, experience, and work opportunities in the Clean Energy sector, aligned with their skill levels and off-the-job training requirements. 
  • Provide your Apprentice/s with the opportunity to engage in activities with Clean Energy outcomes throughout their apprenticeship. Some examples by industry type are provided below. 

Clean energy activity examples

  • Renewable Energy Implementation (Solar panels for farm building, Solar Fencing, Renewables powered irrigation system, etc.)
  • Maintenance of solar fencing, solar panels
  • Energy Efficient practices (Energy efficient/electrifying machinery, lighting and design)
  • Implementing sustainable farming practices, including soil conservation, composting organic waste, biogas production and water management 
  • Operating and maintaining advanced agricultural technology like drones and precision farming tools 
  • Managing crops and livestock with a focus on reducing carbon footprint and improving energy efficiency 
  • Biodynamic fertilising 

  • Installing and maintaining energy-efficient HVAC systems.
  • Designing and implementing climate control systems that minimize energy use.
  • Using green technologies, such as heat pumps, to optimize energy consumption in heating and cooling.
  • Servicing and repairing refrigeration and air conditioning units with a focus on energy efficiency.
  • Installing systems that utilize renewable energy sources, such as solar-powered cooling systems.

  • Installing and maintaining electrical systems in electric & Hybrid vehicles (EVs).
  • Diagnosing and repairing energy-efficient automotive electrical systems and EV Battery packs.
  • Working on charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
  • Diagnostic & Repair Work to troubleshoot EV and hybrid electrical issues.
  • Renewable Energy Integration in Automotive (install and maintenance of solar panels on EVs, Caravans and Motorhomes)
  • Assist in retrofitting internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric
  • Working on Hydrogen Fuel Cell & Alternative Fuels vehicles.

  • Installing and maintaining data and telecommunications cables, including those for smart grids and renewable energy monitoring systems.
  • Setting up smart building communication networks for solar farms, wind turbines, and other renewable energy sites.
  • Installing and maintaining Building Management Systems (BMS) that optimize HVAC, lighting, and energy use.
  • Energy efficient cabling and Network Infrastructure for low-power consumption.
  • Cabling for smart grid communication networks, allowing for better energy distribution and demand response.

  • Drafting designs for sustainable infrastructure projects, such as green buildings and renewable energy facilities.
  • Collaborating with engineers to incorporate energy-saving technologies in construction plans.
  • Assisting in the design and construction of sustainable infrastructure, such as green buildings and renewable energy facilities.
  • Creating structural drawings for mounting systems of solar panels and wind turbines, battery storage facilities etc.
  • Assisting the implementation of energy-efficient construction methods like smart grids & microgrids in urban areas.
  • Design and implementation of Water and waste management (working on off-grid water supply systems, recycling and desalination plants, waste to energy plants)

  • Implementing renewable energy solutions, such as solar panel installations & maintenance, inverters and battery storage systems 
  • Installing and maintaining energy efficient electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings with a focus on energy efficiency & smart systems. 
  • Installing LED lighting systems and energy efficient electrical solutions like smart meters, energy efficient electrical appliances and load management projects 
  • Installing and maintaining advanced energy management systems. 
  • Working on complex electrical systems, including those in renewable energy plants (e.g., wind, solar) 
  • Upgrading electrical grids to accommodate increased renewable energy inputs 
  • Installing and maintaining power lines that support renewable energy transmission, such as those connected to wind and solar farms

  • Installing and maintaining power lines that support renewable energy transmission, i.e. wind and solar farms as well as hydroelectric plants

  • Developing new electroplating techniques that reduce energy consumption and environmental impact.
  • Energy-Efficient Electroplating Processes like switch to pulse electroplating, high-efficiency rectifiers and heat recovery systems.
  • Use of sustainable chemical like adopting eco-friendly electrolytes, recyclable chemicals etc.

  • Creating patterns for parts used in renewable energy technologies, such as wind turbine components or solar panel mounts.
  • Assisting in the development of new clean energy products through prototyping.

  • Producing complex Molds for turbine casings, runner blades, and guide vanes used in hydroelectric plants.

  • EV Battery Diagnostics & Repair: Testing and repairing battery modules to extend their lifespan.
  • EV Charging Station Installation & Maintenance – Installing and troubleshooting for optimal efficiency.
  • Regenerative Braking System Tuning: Optimizing braking systems for better energy recovery.
  • Assisting with solar panel installation and integration with EV chargers.
  • Converting traditional vehicles into electric-powered ones.
  • Diagnosing issues repairing AC/DC motors, their controllers, inverters and converters.

  • Assembling and maintaining mechanical systems in renewable energy installations.
  • Retrofitting existing machinery to improve energy efficiency.

  • Working with sustainable materials to reduce the environmental impact of construction projects.
  • Supporting the integration of renewable energy technologies into building designs.

  • Servicing and maintaining electric and hybrid marine engines.
  • Installation & Maintenance of Renewable Energy Systems on marine vehicles and offshore structures.
  • Retrofitting vessels with energy efficient solutions like energy-efficient LED lighting and HVAC systems.
  • Assisting with the transition to biofuels, hydrogen, and LNG power systems.
  • Installing and maintaining water quality monitoring systems to detect oil spills and pollution.

  • Creating detailed drawings for energy-efficient machinery and renewable energy systems.
  • Collaborating with engineers to design systems that optimize energy use.

  • Supporting the transition to cleaner and more efficient small engine technologies.
  • Retrofitting small gas-powered engines (like generators, motorbikes, and lawn equipment) with electric motors and battery systems.
  • Repairing and maintaining e-scooters, e-bikes, and small electric vehicles.
  • Energy Efficiency Upgrades to improve fuel efficiency in legacy small engines.

  • Joining and maintaining telecommunications cables that support renewable energy monitoring systems.
  • Ensuring the reliability and efficiency of communication networks in clean energy installations.
  • Working on projects that integrate telecommunications with renewable energy technologies.
  • Installing and maintaining telecommunications lines that support renewable energy sites.
  • Supporting the integration of advanced telecommunications technologies with renewable energy systems.
  • Installing & Maintaining Telecommunications for Battery Storage Systems: Setting up communication links for large-scale battery storage systems that store renewable energy.
  • Implementing energy-efficient practices in telecommunications maintenance and installation.
  • Remote Monitoring  and Control Systems: Setting up and maintaining remote communication links for solar farms, wind farms, and hydroelectric stations in rural or offshore locations.
  • Setting up smart metering systems for improved energy management in residential and industrial areas.

  • Building and modifying vehicle bodies to support energy-efficient transportation, including electric vehicles.
  • Using sustainable materials and processes in vehicle body construction.
  • Supporting the transition to cleaner transportation options through custom vehicle design.

  • Working on projects that require precision and energy efficiency, such as wind turbine or solar panel structures.
  • Ensuring the structural integrity and durability of clean energy installations through advanced welding techniques.
  • Performing high-quality welding on components used in renewable energy systems.
  • Welding pipelines and storage tanks for hydrogen fuel infrastructure, for biomass boilers and gasification plants, penstocks, gates, and structural elements for hydroelectric plants.
  • Fabricating components for renewable energy projects.

Apprentice Criteria

To be part of the New Energy Apprenticeship Program with Apprentice Success your Apprentice/s will need to: 

  • Commence or re-commence their apprenticeship after 1 July 2024. 
  • Commit to developing their skills in a Clean Energy occupation, enhancing their industry-specific knowledge and expertise, and selecting Clean Energy electives where available and appropriate.

If eligible your Apprentice/s can be trained by your chosen training provider or any of the Victorian TAFE network and Apprentice Success will become your Australian Apprenticeship Connect Provider.
